Four more dead humans connected to Demonbreun Enterprises had been found. A married couple, Paul and Tammy Hoebark, in Hermitage, were found in their bed at home. The man worked as a teacher at one of the local high schools, but his wife managed a craft brewery owned by us.

The other two hit close to home. Two of our human staff members from the tower had been found murdered in an alley just two blocks away. They had been on their way home from work when they stopped in the alley to have sex. From what I understood from Stanley, the two weren’t a couple, but the woman often turned tricks for money.

“This has got to stop!” I exclaimed.

“We are doing everything we can,” Stanley replied.

I slammed my hands down on the desk in the makeshift office that I rarely visited. “It’s not good enough! The cops are breathing down my throat. It’s even been mentioned that I’m doing it. That I’m the one out there killing people even though I have solid alibis. This is someone inside this building that knew that Cora Fletcher was turning tricks on her way home from work. They knew she was hooking up with Joseph. Find them,” I snarled.

Stanley nodded and left the room.

I slumped back into my chair. The sweet scent of flowers with a hint of citrus wafted toward me. Olivia was still living in the tower. We’d taken her to her apartment where she had very little to her name. The efficiency made my old apartment look like a mansion. She packed a bag, and I swore there was nothing left in the room worth taking. I also swore that she would never spend the night in that shithole ever again. She avoided me. We talked, and she had typical, curious questions about vampires.

I’d even stepped into sunlight so she could see that I didn’t sparkle. I did however melt, and I regretted it. But I’d do anything to regain her trust.

Danny sat silently across the room. I knew he could smell her, too. I’d seen him watching her. If I was a betting man, I’d say if Olivia wasn’t firmly established as mine, he would be all over her.

“What’s all the yelling?” she asked as she breezed into the door. Danny straightened. “Hey, Danny.”

“Good evening, Miss Spencer,” he replied.

“I wish you would call me Livy.”

“I call you what my boss tells me to call you,” he replied.

“Malik, tell him to call me Livy.”

“Call her Livy,” I said.

He huffed. He’d also lied through his teeth. I’d never told him to call her that. Bastard.

“It’s nice to see you’ve figured out how things work around here,” Danny teased her.

“Malik is in charge. Lord Demonbreun of the Vampires. I can’t believe I just fucking said that,” Livy said.

My eyes shot to her. I’d never heard her cuss. Much less drop the f-bomb. I didn’t know if I wanted that word to never cross her sweet lips again or if I wanted to hear her shout it at the top of her lungs.
